Official Nutrition Recommendations for Prevention of COVID-19 from The Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association
The professional body responsible for medical nutrition management of patients, The Sri Lanka Medical Nutrition Association, has provided the following recommendations on prevention of COVID-19.
Nutrition Recommendations for Prevention of COVID-19
Drink at least 2 liters (8 cups) of water throughout the day to maintain hydration. Other options - unsweetened beverages such as king coconut water, coriander water, light plain tea, etc.
Take at least 3 main meals without skipping any meal.
Include Vitamin C rich food (eg: Guava, Nelli, Jambola, Papaya, Oranges, Raw drumstick leaves, Raw carrot leaves, etc.)
Include Zinc rich food items (Thala, Pulses, Kunissa, Egg including yolk, etc.)
Minimize fried food and sweetened beverages and snacks
Avoid consuming alcohol and avoid smoking
20 second hand washing before preparation of food, before and after eating.
Adhere to home cooked food as much as possible.
Adequate sleep required (6-8 hours)
